FLAVOUR IS A FRONTIER
Natoora Organic Greek Corinth Currants
- Organic currants sourced direct from a small scale producer in southern Greece.
- Their deep blue, almost black colour and intense concentration of flavour comes from the traditional natural cultivation and production process.
- The grapes are hand-harvested from vineyards that are entirely organically cultivated, with methods driven by the exceptional quality of the grapes rather than yield.
- All grapes are collected in the final two weeks of August, when the fruit has absorbed the maximum concentration of natural sugars and nutrients.
- The harvest is then hung in individual bunches under handmade sunshades - “Skies” or “Iskiades” - that protect the grapes from intense sunlight.
- After 30 to 60 days with constant daily checking of the drying process, the nearly-dried grapes are taken down from the sunshades and placed by hand in a threshing floor, where they are left in the sun for two days to complete the drying process.
- To finish, when the raisins are fully dried, the grapes are hand-grated to separate the stem from the berries.
Take it further
- Soaked in red wine vinegar, tossed through salad.
- Poached in honey syrup, stirred through yoghurt.

Currants come from Corinth
Somebody taught me that when I was a kid, but I'd never tried any specifically Corinthian currants before. These are tiny, sweet and fruity, and we have been enjoying them with cereals and desserts. A little goes a long way, which perhaps means this item is not as expensive as it looks. I may even purchase again!
lovely
Extremely sweet - kids love them. Too sweet for me but use in our Xmas pudding & perfect Thank you!
Superb
Really good flavour, sweet, soft and just a little bit of tang. Tiny just as they should be.
Dried currants are made from Corinth grapes
I sympathise with the confusion, because currants *are* misleadingly named... but currants were named in England at a time when people didn't travel much, so had no idea that these tiny, dark, sharp little dried fruits were made from a tiny, dark, sharp little grape, and not the familiar local blackcurrant. Raisins, sultanas and currants are all dried grapes, but the name 'currant' stuck. These grapes are really pippy, which is why it's worth spending more on good quality dried currants so you don't end up with grittiness in a Christmas cake! This producer properly pips them and doesn't leave lots of dried little stalks, either. Delicious and so good to bake with - I'm happy to compromise on sultanas, because soak them in enough rum and nobody will notice, but currants are, to my mind, worth the extra. You notice grit in a cake.
Currant? Or Raisin?
A grape doesn't become a currant but a raisin. They have a completely different nutritional value. Not better or worse but different.
Porridge
These are fantastic when added to porridge after its cooked. Simply add a small handful to the porridge and mix them in. The residual heat of the porridge pops out the flavour in the currants.
