Regional information
The Douro valley is one of the most challenging wine-growing regions. Its mountainous terrain & steep winding valleys create a microclimate producing unique wines. The Marão range, which rises to 1,400m, ensures the region is protected from the influences of the Atlantic. The temperatures fall below freezing in winter & consistently climb above 30C in summer. These harsh conditions are ideal for making wines of great power & concentration. Steep gradients preclude machinery, all grapes being handpicked.
