Regional information
The wine is made by the Van Zeller family, steeped in the tradition of 14 generations of winemaking in the famous Portuguese Douro valley. Álvaro Van Zeller leads winemaking, while his older brother Baron Fernando Van Zeller leads the business. The Van Zellers produce both wine and port which adds another layer to Darkest Red as the wine spends time in port barrels, imparting a little richness to the blend before it is bottled.

Vinification details
Darkest Red is a blend of Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão & Touriga Nacional grapes indigenous to Portugal. These are the principal grape varieties used in Portugal's famous Douro Valley wine region to make both port and wine. The exciting characteristic of Darkest Red is that as a blend, each grape variety's flavour profile adds to the character and individuality of the wine. Tinto Cão, for example, is a low yielding grape variety that adds spice to the blend.
