Other Information
Each parcel of handpicked fruit was gently destemmed into small open top fermenters retaining a large proportion of whole berries. A pre-fermentation soak averaging 5 days preceded a warm and rapid indigenous fermentation where temperatures spiked between 30-33 °C. All batches were hand plunged as per winemaker’s instruction. Post primary fermentation the young wine spent 16 days on skins totalling 33 days before being pressed to a mixture of new and older French oak barrels for maturation. Late spring natural malolactic fermentation initiated in all batches finishing in late December. Early February each batch was gently removed from barrel, tasted and assessed before blending and preparing for bottling.
The wine spent 10 months in 100% French oak barrels.

Brand details
The Jackson and Stichbury families have farmed the free draining soils of Marlborough's Wairau River plains for more than 160 years. The vines in our Homestead vineyard were planted in 1989 by Jackson Estate founders, John and Jo Stichbury.
Our aim is to make wines of elegance and finesse that show vineyard expression with minimal winemaking intervention. The fruit was harvested from the Homestead vineyard, whole bunch pressed then fermented in French oak barriques using indigenous yeasts before aging on lees for ten months prior to bottling.
Jackson Estate embodies the very best of Marlborough New Zealand. Jackson Estate is a special place, testament to the vision and determination of the Stichbury & Jackson families who have farmed on the Wairau River plain at Jacksons Road for more than 160 years. Since planting our first Chardonnay vineyards three decades ago, time, tide and fortune have smiled on Jackson Estate, and the unparalleled affinity between Marlborough and Chardonnay has been spectacularly realised.
The acclaim Jackson Estate Chardonnay generates is based entirely on the merit of our pristine, cool climate vineyards. This single vineyard wine is named for the belt of gum trees that encircle the Jackson Estate Homestead, providing shelter for the fruit trees and the BBQ.
We trust you enjoy this wine as much as we did making it.

Vinification details
The fruit was whole bunch loaded to press and cut to taste by the winemaker, with 75% of the juice going to barrel with a high proportion of solids and 25% remaining in stainless tanks. The barrel portion contained 25% new oak with the rest made up of 2–5-year-old barrels. Fermentation was carried out in both stainless tanks and French barrels by indigenous yeasts and reached a maximum temperature of 25°C. The young wines remained on their ferment lees over winter and began natural malolactic fermentation in the spring. Aged for 12 months in oak, the barrel batch was racked, assessed, and blended with the aged tank portion and prepared for bottle Mid-April.
