Nice in a Manhattan
This is one that we buy frequently to use in cocktails but it's nice enough to have on the rocks too. It's not particularly special but it's good all rounder and reasonably priced.
nice with mixers
best whisky to use with mixers but also smooth enough on it's own
My go to for neat
Great all rounder for a little nightcap. Smooth, smokey and sweet. Hard to beat at this price point.
Excellent blend
Complex and more-ish. Smoke, wood, spice, pepper... Good neat and with mixers. This and the equally impressive Green Label have made me re-think my attitude to blended scotch!
Classy Cocktails With Johnnie Black
Of course it may enjoy neat, on-the-rocks or highballs though, my favourite magical mixology tour with Johnnie begins on Scotch Sidecar with freshly squeezed lemon juice and Cointreau, Silent Third in 1/3 ratio, Smoky Martini with gin and organic lemon zest, then Godfather with amaretto with organic orange peel Old Fashioned and Whisky Sour are textbook quality. In the summer, chilled sparkling water or wine may top up the Scotch Sidecar as a fizz version. In the winter, a shot with hot tea or coffee goes well as a winter warmer, which cinnamon coffee is nice as well. For this mid price blended scotch category, Johnnie is my favourite, so no substitution allowed (Our other favourites cost more in different price range.)
Johnnie, a trusted old friend…
I’ve been drinking this for years, and never tired of it. Neat, on ice, or with soda water, it’s always been a reliable favourite and remains so. The classic notes of toffee, fruity spice, and a moderately smoky finish make this a solid all-rounder. Well presented in a card box, it can be a good gift when introducing someone to blended whisky.
