Product information

In April 2017 we took possession of a vineyard at Rays Road in Hawkes Bay that was already planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The vineyard soil is wind-blown clay loess over limestone, so we were particularly keen to see how these varieties performed. 2018 was our first vintage from Rays Road and we were excited by the potential we saw with the Pinot Noir. Now, from the excellent 2020 vintage we have consolidated that quality expectation, and this year have blended the grapes from Rays Road with some outstanding richer Kumeu fruit with delicious results.

The wine displays a bright cherry red /burgundy colour with lifted red fruit aromas. On the palate the wine is cool, round and fruity and with a nice hint of chalky tannin that keeps the wine dry and refreshing.

History
The Brajkovich family and Kumeu River Wines is a story that parallels the New Zealand wine industry. From the pioneering days to the establishment of the New Zealand wine industry to today, the Brajkovich family have been internationally recognised as producing world class wine. The first vineyard was bought in 1944 and the estate has now grown to 30 hectares.
Regional Information
Despite being situated well north of New Zealand’s other viticultural regions, Kumeu’s climate is cooled through its close proximity to both the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean. This climate , combined with soil types very efficient at retaining water where needed, results in conditions that enhance the fantastic aromas and flavours from early ripening varieties such as chardonnay and pinot gris.
