pieces of 'mince' no veg
I didn't look at the ingredients for these in detail, we were just trying to substitute some meat items in our usual meals. I was surprised it's just quorn type mince and gravy, I was expecting a pea or a carrot too, as it would have been such an easy substitute for a meat pie if it had more substance. But unfortunately this was a one off switch. We do like the 1/4 pounder burgers and sausage rolls though.
Nice but never enough filling
just put more filling in the pie, or just sell the filling. Or just sell a thin burger instead of a ott quarter pounder. Defrost before cooking then it won’t be soggy. These are fab pies, just need filling up please. Please do a wine version.
Soggy bottom and cheap tasting
I've given 2 stars only because, despite looking and tasting like these could be a £1 freezer filler type item, at least being vegetarian, I ate it knowing there at least weren't going to be any questionable quality bits of 'meat'! I bought these every now and then 10+ years ago and I seem to recall they weren't in a foil tin and they were infinitely better. The two I've had on separate occasions came out with soggy, almost raw pastry at the bottom (despite cooking for slightly longer than the directions). The 'mince' was very salty and brushing the lid with milk didn't do much at all to add a freshly baked sheen. Cheap tasting and won't be buying again.
Soggy bottom
Absolutely essential to loosen the pies from the foil containers before cooking, otherwise the pies weld themselves to the foil. However, even if loosened before cooking and cooking for longer than the prescribed time the pies still have stodgy and soggy bottoms. Deep filled is pushing the description a bit too. Reasonably tasty if not a little over seasoned.
Still ok but v different from how they used to be
Its a shame they have changed the filing - it used to have larger pieces and a dark brown gravy but now the filling is very fine mince and an almost greyish colour. They taste ok and the pastry is still good but these aint what the unused to be.
