If I had not known it was made from English-grown grapes I would have happily accepted this as champagne. It's stylish, and has a good balance of fruit, body and acidity. I'm not sure I would pay the full price, but as long as it's on offer I will buy it.
I really wanted to like it....
I so wanted to like this wine. Some of the ESWs are just lovely and I thought this might even beat favourites like Nyetimber. For my taste, I found it bland yet acidic. Its a high price for what it is. Disappointing.
The best sprakling wine I've tried from the UK
This is very impressive. Whilst there are some really good sparkling wine's in the UK, to me this is the best I've tasted and for sure is the closest to champagne. My second favourite being a cornish vintage which was great, but not as complex as a good vintage champagne. To me quite a few ESW's are nice but don't have that much depth. This is different. However, I still feel for a product establishing itself, the price is high especially when champagne has that history and prestige. 5 for taste, 3 for price hence the 4!
The winner of champagne club!
We attend a champagne club where members each bring a sparkling wine. Out of the 6 options this came out top in the blind tasting! An absolute gem of a sparkling wine - ESW at its best. Something for all palates, a dry fizz with profiles of apple. Would def recommend. Worth the money!
