Pleasant surprise
This wine was smooth, had a good depth of body and taste, and slipped like velvet down the throat. It was so good that I got through the bottle over 2 days, which is unusual for me. And now I'm buying another. I normally buy Australian or Californian wines as S African can be a bit heavy. But this one is delightful.
Another watered down disaster
Another formerly decent wine ruined (thanks Rishi) by adding water to get abv down to 11% and hit the lower tax point. When have you ever seen a South African Merlot at 11% abv?? AVOID!

The worst wine we have had for a long time taste description totally wrong Wine was very acidic and very rough

Not to the normal standard. I assume this has recently changed to the 2023 vintage and this is not the same as previous years. Not much taste. Not fruity. Not nice.
M \x26 S Daniels Drift Merlot
Normally M & S wines are very good but unfortunately on this occasion it was not. We decided to give this wine a try for the first time but unfortunately it was utter dreadful. Very sharp very bitter and not nice at all. my guests just couldn't drink it and it couldn't even be used for cooking. It got poured right down the sink. Would certainly not recommend this wine and this is purely based on our experience this week. I don't know if we were just unlucky and got a bottle that had turned but very disappointed

I usually like a nice Merlot. Based on comments here decided to try this wine. Unfortunately was disappointed: very thin and flavourless taste. All went into the bin.
