Buttery Pastry Case
20cm Pastry case
Craft perfect pastry cases and make comforting pies filled with your favourite fillings.
175g Plain flour
80g Cold butter, diced
Pinch of salt
2-4 tbsp water
Oven 200°C / Fan 180°C / Gas mark 6
1. Sift the flour and salt into a large mixing bowl, add the diced butter to the flour and using fingertips, lightly rub into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
2. Add roughly 2 tablespoons of cold water, then use a round bladed knife to start to bringing the mixture together. Add more water if needed, then finally bring the mixture together with your hands to form a smooth ball of dough.
3. Wrap the pastry in a piece of clingfilm and rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Meanwhile preheat oven.
4. Roll out the pastry to fit the size of your dish and line with greaseproof paper.
Fill with baking beans and bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes.
5. Remove baking beans and greaseproof paper. Cook for a further 5 minutes.
6. Trim off the excess pastry with a sharp knife and use pastry case as required.
