Actually prefer the vegan one!
I've tried a lot of haggis in Scotland and elsewhere and find this holds up quite well. Mine wasn't gristly in fact i found it very similar to the vegan one by this brand. If you're looking to cut down on meat give that a go because it's really similar, I'd actually say slightly nicer. I'm not sure what qualifies as traditional haggis maybe the one where the casing is edible? This isn't edible casing but i had a very delicious haggis at a Scottish cafe similar to this and i think all different types have merit. Try different ones and see what you like. This works really well when you want to crumble it up and mix it through a dish. We had this following the suggested recipe and it was ok though i was expecting it to make a tomato sauce which it didn't it was basically just fried tomatoes with oil pasta and haggis, nice but if you want a proper sauce skip the recipe and just crumble haggis in some passata or something. I really like cooking it without foil as the edges go a bit crispy/hard, i might be weird for that but i think it's great, just got to be careful it doesn't burst if you do this.
I like it regardless
Okay, I have no idea whether this is authentic or not but after trying a few brands of haggis they seem to have common ingredients and flavours. Maybe none of them are authentic, but I like this one as it is not greasy and has a texture and a bit of bit which I like.
not the real deal
this isnt haggis as i know it - moist and spicy. it was very bland , hardly any pepper and very gristly.
Is this haggis made for the southern tastebud, I wonder? It is bland and lacking in the spicy flavour of haggis in Scotland that I have had (I am not a Scot). Hardly worth bothering with. And why cant you boil it? I would not purchase again, nor would I recommend it. Waste of time.
ugh! more like a quinoa salad
Fell to bits within seconds of going in the microwave. Tasted of nothing.
tasty but gristly
I had to spit out way too much of gristle & even found an intact piece of (animal) valve so no way would I buy this again, which is a shame as it was tasty & cooked well
