Considered the classic basil, with large leaves and a mild aniseed flavour popular for Mediterranean dishes.

March to May, or all year round to grow indoors. In pots or trays of moist compost. Sow thinly, cover lightly with compost. Keep at 15-20°C and keep moist. Seedlings appear 7-14 days. Thin plants to further pots or trays if necessary. To grow outdoors, stand outside for a few days late May (avoid frosts). Transplant 15cm apart in final position. To grow indoors, transplant to 15cm pots of compost, place in a light airy location. Outdoor crops June to October, indoor crops all year round. Pick as Required.

When cooking, add leaves at the last minute to retain maximum flavour.
