Product Information

An ‘ageless’ favourite producing thick, medium length, tender stems. A very hardy, reliable variety of Scottish origin, first introduced back in 1834.

Preparation and Usage

For indoor sowing
When January to February.
Where In trays of seed compost.
How Sow thinly, cover with 1.5cm of compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover tray with glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at approx. 15°C. Seedlings appear in 14-21 days.
Care Remove cover when seedlings appear. When large enough transplant 5cm apart in trays. Stand outside for a few days late May (avoid frosts). When 10cm tall transplant into holes 15cm apart with 30cm between rows.
Harvest October to December.
For outdoor sowing
When March to April.
Where In a prepared seed bed.
How Sow thinly in rows 20cm apart. Cover with 1.5cm of fine soil. Care When 10cm tall transplant to growing position into holes 15cm apart with 30cm between rows.
Harvest November to March.

Other Information

Earth up the stems in autumn for extra whiteness.
