Instantly recognisable, with contrasting pale stamen ‘sprinkled’ over dusky petals. Easy, for borders and cutting. Scabious can spoil vase water so use cut flower food and replace water regularly.

For outdoor sowing
When March to May.
Where In a prepared seed bed in flowering position.
How Sow thinly in rows 30cm apart. Cover with 0.5cm of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Seedlings appear 14-28 days. Make 2-3 sowings for a longer flowering season.
Care When large enough thin to 20cm apart. Keep moist and weed free.
Flowers June to October. Regular cutting of fresh and faded blooms will prolong flowering.
