In our house we eat this in a salad together with potatoes and seasoned with salt, vinegar, olive and pumpkin seed oil. Delicious and brings back childhood memories of homegrown radicchio. On one occasion the head of radicchio I received was a little wilted but another time it was perfect.
Great for pasta and risotto
I love radicchio and I can never find it in my local supermarkets, so I buy it from Ocado. It's been consistently good and fresh except the last time I ordered it. It arrived with green/brownish leaves. I had to throw it out, so that was a waste of money. It happened only once, so I hope it was just a one-time occurrence.
Radicchio - very fine leaves
This small ball of Radicchio is the size of a grapefruit, with very fine, tender leaves. It's delicious, when mixed with other leaves, (such as nasturtiums flowers, watercress, geranium leaves and flowers and crisp cabbage ) though too much on it's own - and the bitterness takes the stage.
Never see this sold alone in any other supermarket. unless in a salad bag or Harrod's food hall. And it's my Guinea pigs favourite.
Small and not fresh
I was disappointed with this as firstly, it was small - barely the size of a grapefruit - and secondly, not fresh. When I received it the leaves were just starting to go limp and I wondered whether the outer layer of leaves had been removed as well. 2 stars rather than one as it was still edible and tasted ok but won't be buying again.
I love radicchio and it's usually hard to get it crisp and fresh (except in season at my farmer's market). The two I've had so far were perfect - better than what I get at my local Italian deli. Very happy to now have this in my kitchen non-stop.
