Product Information
Ocado Galia Melon.
This product is sold by weight, the minimum weight of product you will receive is 800g.
Galia melons are typically small to medium-sized, round, and uniformly shaped. When ripe, the rind is hard and thick, with a distinctive golden yellow-orange base colour that is covered in a rough, corky, tan netting. Inside, the flesh is a beautiful pale green to white colour, dense, firm yet succulent with a central cavity holding small, ivory seeds.
Galia melons are highly prized for their incredibly sweet and aromatic flavour, often displaying hints of tropical notes such as mango or kiwi, alongside a slightly floral nuance. A ripe galia melon emits a strong, sweet, and distinctly musky or perfumed aroma which is the best indicator of ripeness. The flesh is very watery and succulent, making it incredibly refreshing.
Galia melons are fantastic for a variety of fresh and light eating occasions, especially in warmer weather. Enjoy as a refreshing snack by simply slicing it in half, scooping out the seeds, and eating it as is with a spoon. Add to fruit salads, yoghurt, porridge, or alongside granola for a sweet and refreshing start to the day. Blend the flesh into smoothies, shakes, or fruit juices and use as the base of sorbets, granitas, or as a topping for panna cotta or ice cream.
The sweetness of galia melon pairs beautifully with salty and tangy flavours, making it excellent in prosciutto, cured meats or cheese platters. Cubed or balled, it adds a sweet, juicy element to savoury salads with ingredients like rocket, mint, balsamic glaze, and olives. Dice into a refreshing salsa with red onion, jalapeño, coriander, and lime juice, perfect for grilled fish or chicken.
