Product Information
Paxton Jones Block Shiraz 2019 McLaren Vale (14%). 93 points
I thought they all come the same colour, but this is, I think, very slightly more purplish on the edges. It is also different on the nose - this is the first that has aromas that genuinely fit my preferences. There are fresh strawberries, cherries, and an elegance that I wouldn't associate with the variety in its Australian take. It is similarly stereotype-smashing on the palate: freshness together with crunchy red fruit, and just a hint of tanginess on the aftertaste that rounds it out very nicely. I usually avoid delicious as a term, but this is actually it. And I am thinking duck confit with roast potatoes for dinner. Yum.

Brand details
The Shiraz is a celebrated McLaren Vale single vineyard wine, offering concentrated black berry and dark fruit aromas, a dense and structural palate, and a robust full-bodied finish. Noticeable fine-grained tannins, and a real focus on oak contribution.
The Jones Block vineyard was planted in the 1960s, and has proved itself to be one of McLaren Vale's most acclaimed Shiraz vineyards. With no less than thirteen separate Shiraz blocks, each is treated as a separate parcel prior to blending, ensuring only the best parcels make the grade. The site takes in breath-taking views across the Gulf St Vincent, 6km west and the Adelaide Ranges, 5km east and is approximately 100m above sea level. The name originates from the previous owner, Doug Jones; who was McLaren Vale's much-loved charismatic local pharmacist, back in the day.
At Paxton Wines, we have been nurturing our family owned vineyards in McLaren Vale, South Australia, since 1979. We produce premium certified organic wines.

Vinification details
Hand picked at optimum sugar and flavour equilibrium, the grapes were kept on skins for 15 days. The ferment was pumped over and plunged twice a day to extract colour, flavour and tannin structure. Once pressed, we used a combination of French and American oak barriques (40% new) for maturation of up to 22 months prior to blending and bottling. This wine was cellared for a further 6 months prior to release.
