Product Information

A medium-bodied saturated-red wine. Penfolds Bin 8 is a classic Australian blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, crafted in the traditional Penfolds style. This elegant wine shows ripe sweet fruit flavours supported by softly integrated oak and silky tannins. We invite you to explore the Penfolds range and discover a success story more than 175 years old. The renowned Bin series, first created in 1959, reflects Penfolds meticulous winemaking approach of sourcing the best fruit from premium vineyards, in order to marry both regional and varietal characters to the distinctive Penfolds style. The lifted cabernet notes make this a great pairing with lamb, but any red meat will work well with the taught tannins and generous palate and hard cheese like cheddar is a winner.

History

Bin 8 was first made in 2003 and is a modern exemplar of Penfolds multi-regional and multi-varietal blending philosophy. Ripe, balanced fruit flavours are supported by softly integrated oak resulting in an impressive, smooth red wine. It was introduced in response to a heightened interest in shiraz and cabernet sauvignon blends, a classic.

Vinification details

Conditions in January and February provided some welcome relief, with cooler conditions and some welcome rain, which ensured the vines were able to finish the remainder of the season off well. While bunch weights and berry numbers were low across the major growing regions, the harvest produced some outstanding parcels of shiraz and cabernet sauvignon with strong varietal characteristics.
