I often find that spinach is nondescript in many recipes but it was front & centre in this pie, even though there was plenty of sweet potato present. The colours of the filling are attractive, as is the colour of the golden pastry with sesame. However the pastry was was too hard to cut with knife & fork, & we resorted to biting chunks of the pastry separate from the filling. Therefore - ok for a TV dinner, but no way would I attempt to serve it at the table! A real shame because it's a lovely pie.
Too much sweet potato!
I do love Pieminister pies, so full of flavour, nice and filling, and even better, with no plastic packaging at all! However, I've tried a couple of these now in the last few weeks (bought two on a deal) but this one isn't for me I'm afraid. The pie pastry is nice, and there is a reasonable goats' cheese taste, but I find the large chunks of sweet potato, which are quite firm, a bit too much, and the spinach rather stringy to eat. On both occasions I have left much of the potato filling. I would much prefer this if the spinach were less stringy (maybe needs more chopping during manufacture?) and if there could be less sweet potato, with it being more of a mashed consistency. Wouldn't buy again in its current incarnation.
Filling with nice crisp pastry
Buy this as an occasional change. I'm not a shortcrust fan usually so I like this different pastry. I have found the sweet potato cubes are a little hard and undercooked which does detract a little but overall a nice veggie pie.
Watch your teeth!
A guaranteed trip to the dentist if you manage to break through the pastry with this pie! You need a chainsaw to cut the base alone!
What a pity I didn’t like it, it looks delicious the pasty looks fantastic but the stringy bits inside really put me off
Love the flavour but
I absolutely love the flavour of this but was seriously concerned about my teeth as the pastry was so hard and very close to being inedible. I cooked from fresh as as per instructions, in the oven. Sadly I will be be buying again until the pastry recipe changes!
