Product Information

It all started in a room above the Portobello Star pub at 171 Portobello Road, London, where after 9 months of hard graft, research, experimentation and cocktails, the perfect gin blend was crafted by the award-winning licensed victuallers of the Ginstitute, Messrs. Feltham, Burger and Lane.

Created with bartenders in mind, and designed to be mixed, the recipe calls for a blend of nine completely natural botanicals and eschews the contemporary trend for ever more esoteric ingredients, instead saluting London's distillers of the past. A classic botanical selection, with cassia bark and nutmeg concomitant, contrives a timeless London Dry Gin with a depth of flavour and character to suit all occasions and libations.

With enough of those robust gin flavours like juniper, citrus and coriander to make a Gin & Tonic, but with enough elegance to work in a martini and spices that create a depth of character and intensity to work in drinks like a Negroni, these botanicals combine to create a uniquely versatile gin.

Tasting notes

Portobello Road Gin has a generous slug of juniper and a sustained, fresh citrus character from the use of lemon, bitter orange and coriander. This then develops into a sweet peppery finish, achieved using liquorice and nutmeg.

Serving suggestions

Portobello Road Gin and Tonic

Our signature drink. We suggest our lovingly distilled Portobello Road Gin is best served simply with a twist of pink grapefruit.

Ingredients

50ml Portobello Road Gin 100ml Premium tonic water Twist of pink grapefruit

Preparation

Fill a tall glass with lots of good quality ice. Add the Portobello Road Gin and top with tonic water taking extra care to pour it as slowly as you can so as to maintain its effervescence. Cut a thin peel of pink grapefruit and twist over the top of the glass to release the oils from the skin. Place the peel in the drink and enjoy!

Tom Collins

Our modernised recipe of a classic cocktail popularised in London during the 1880’s by John Collins of Limmers Hotel. Easy to make at home and the perfect refreshing drink for a hot summers day. For BBQ’s and parties why not make up a jug by increasing the quantities!

Ingredients

25ml Portobello Road Gin 17.5ml Lemon Juice 25ml Sugar Syrup 100ml Soda Water

Preparation

Fill a tall glass with ice. Add the ingredients and slowly mix with a long bar spoon so not to disturb the effervescence. Finally add slices of lemon.

Ultimate Cooling Copa

A Copa for the summer season, the ultimate refreshing G&T, with super chilled tonic water, gin, and glasses & garnishes selected for their cooling properties.

Ingredients

50ml Portobello Road Gin, 200ml Premium Tonic Water, garnish with cucumber ribbons, watermelon cubes, spearmint and green apple.

Preparation

This drink is all about cooling down so the secret is in the preparation. Keep your Gin in the freezer, put your tonic water in a bucket of iced water in the fridge into which you have also dissolved a desert spoon full of salt, keep your garnish fruit and veg in the fridge. Keep your glassware in the freezer.

When you’re ready almost fill the glass with ice, add the gin and slowly add the tonic, then use a vegetable peeler to cut long strips of cucumber, add 3 or 4 mint leaves, and a similar number of watermelon cubes (you can prepare these in advance) if you’re feeling really adventurous top the whole thing with a fanned apple “parasol” to keep the drink in the shade. Serve promptly.
