Nestled at the foothills of Mount Cañeten, Los Vascos estate is a blend of viticulture, agriculture, and natural habitat. At los Vascos, “ we cultivate to sow future”. Chagual, is the local name for Puya Chilensis, an endemic plant growing in the Central region of Chile, who gives birth to a gigantic inflorescence made of hundreds of yellow-green little flowers every two years. The plant is able to create many positive interrelations with animals, insects, birds and plants. It is home to the biggest butterfly of chile, “ la mariposa del Chagual” who depends on it to thrive. |

History
Domaines Barons De Rothschild Lafite took over Los Vascos (meaning the Basques, in honour of its Basque origins) in 1988. At the time, the estate extended to 2,200 hectares with 220 hectares planted to vine. Planted in a single block, the vineyard at Viña Los Vascos benefits from intense exposure to the sun, adequate water sources, semiarid soils and little risk of frost. This unique microclimate has everything needed to produce extraordinary wines and a mixture of grape varietals thrive here: Cabernet Sauvignon (85%), Carmenère (5%), Syrah (4%), Malbec (1%) and Chardonnay (5%). Following a major replanting at the beginning of the 1990s, the vineyard is divided between a group of 15-year old plots and another group of 40 to 50-year old plots. The oldest vines are 70 years old.

Regional information
Stretching from the Coastal range to the foothills of the Andes mountains, Colchagua’s Mediterranean climate and privileged terroirs have made it a place of choice to produce quality wines in Chile. Los Vascos estate lies at the foothills of the coastal range, 200km South West of Santiago, in the cooler part of Colchagua where the vines benefit from the natural cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean. The soils are of medium depth and are made of sand and clay. Combined with the breeze from the near Pacific Ocean, they allow for the production of fresh and well-balanced grapes.
Tasting notes
With a ruby red color, it initially surprises with its intense aromatic profile, showcasing predominant notes of fruit like black cherry, strawberry, blackberry yogurt and raspberry. Subsequently, spicy undertones of black pepper and laurel emerge, bringing freshness and complexity. On the palate, it shows good volume, with gentle tannins, refreshing acidity, creating a juicy and persistent wine that will have a nice evolution in the bottle. An organic wine that reflects the excellent quality of a vintage with ideal climatic conditions.

The grapes are from El Bruno Vineyard - Peralillo which is certified organic since 2011. The maceration is carried out for up to 15 days, seeking to maintain fruit expression without neglecting the typical structure of the varietal. The wine is then fermented and aged in cement vats to maintain the freshness and aromatic expression, characteristic of the variety.
