Preparation and Usage
See front of pack for approximate cooking time. All appliances vary, the following are guidelines only.
To Oven Cook: Pre-heat oven to 170 C, Fan 150 C, Gas Mark 3.
Allow the turkey to sit at room temperature for an hour before cooking. Remove all packaging. Remove neck and giblets from cavity of turkey. Place the turkey in a large roasting tray. Remove the trussing band and pull out the legs to open the cavity.
Loosely cover the roasting tray with a large piece of foil making a dome over the top of the turkey. Place roasting tray in the centre of the oven. Cook for 40 minutes per kg. Check turkey on a regular basis to ensure the foil does not stick to the skin. Baste the turkey frequently with the cooking juices. Remove the foil 45 minutes before the end of the cooking time, baste and return to the oven to allow the skin to become golden brown. To ensure the turkey is fully cooked, insert a skewer into the thickest part of the meat. If the juices run clear, not pink, it is fully cooked through. If the juices are pink, continue cooking for a further 15 minutes and retest. Repeat every 15 minutes until juices are clear. Check product is piping hot before serving. Do not reheat. Once cooked, cover with foil and allow to rest for 20 to 30 minutes before carving.
