Over the course of 18 years our Master Distiller, Alan Winchester, takes this expression through a combination of cask types, including both first and second-fill American oak (for tropical fruitiness) and ex-sherry oak (for spicy complexity). The result of this deft navigation of the distilling arts is a gorgeous single malt that is complex, yet elegant and balanced. The 18 Year Old has won more awards than any other expression; every bottle is a true example of the quality and taste of The Glenlivet. Serving suggestion: Drink to your own preference; straight up, in a cocktail, or simply with a drop of water to open the creamy, smooth character. When serving with ice, large cubes are recommended to allow slow dilution releasing the creamy, sweet characters.

Why not try making an Old Fashioned?
Ingredients:
50ml The Glenlivet 18 Year Old
5g Unrefined Cane Sugar
2 Dashes of Perfect Bitters Blend
Orange Peel (to garnish)
Ice
How to mix: The Old-Fashioned is traditionally made in the tumbler in which it is served. Add the unrefined caster sugar into the glass and add a little whisky and ice. Stir slowly to dissolve the sugar for about half a minute, add a little more whisky and the bitters and continue to stir for another minute. Add the remaining whisky and stir, taste for balance and adjust if necessary. Garnish with a large orange twist expressed over the surface of the drink.

George Smith, The Glenlivet's founder, didn't follow the lead of the illegal still owners. In 1824, he obtained a distiller's licence to become the first legal distiller in Glenlivet, Scotland. 50 years later, George finally won the exclusive right to call his whisky ‘THE Glenlivet', definitively marking it as the single malt that started it all.
