Varzea do Marão is a beautiful family owned property located in a mountainous area that is on the eastern boarder of the Vinho Verde region. It is a place where you can feel the cool of the Atlantic influence. The family have been making wine for over a century in this region and own the oldest vineyard in Vinho Verde. Expertise passed down through many generations ensures typical winemaking of the very best quality.

History
Quinta da Calçada is in the heart of the Vinho Verde region in Amarante. Owned by the da Mota family since 1917, the winery is one of the oldest producers in Vinho Verde, with a focus on high quality white wines and sparkling.
Regional Information
Nestled in northwest Portugal, the Vinho Verde wine region captivates with its lush landscapes, granite soils, and Atlantic influence. The cool temperatures allow for a long growing season that promotes gradual ripening and creates wines with great vitality and complex flavours.

Vinification Details
The carefully selected grapes were de-stemmed and lightly pressed with the extracted juice transferred to each stainless steel vat using gravity rather than a pump. It was then fermented at controlled temperatures over two weeks before filtering and bottling.

Delicious vinho verde

Lovely and light, with that characteristic fizz on the tongue.

not crazy about it

A slightly bland and overly dry wine which lacks depth of flavour. It has the slightest fizzy tingle on the tongue, which unfortunately didn't taste like an intentional feature. Bought on offer and might give it a second chance for a summer BBQ, but I'd be more likely to choose something more delicious next time.

Great for the price

Vinho Verdes can be expensive however this one is lovely and has a great taste. Great to add to meals such as sauces and risottos but also great on the side.

Disappointed

It sounded good but tasted a bit bland. I bought 2 bottles. The second is sitting there to have as the 3rd of 4th bottle when I have a few friends over and were too drunk to be fussy.

A very bland wine

We tried this wine recently and found it very bland with no real flavour or bouquet, though it did have a slight prickle in the mouth. Nothing out of the ordinary.
