Product information

What do you get when you combine a beautiful sunny Mediterranean climate with one of the most isolated countries in the world? Chile, a vine grower's paradise.
At Veramonte, we believe in preserving this paradise. So we are careful to be as sustainable as possible in the winery and we farm all of our vines organically. No nasty chemicals in our vineyards or our wines.
The fruit for this Merlot is grown on our estate in the beautiful Casablanca Valley, where it ripens slowly, thanks to the gentle cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean. When it is ripe, we carefully pick and vinify the grapes, and then age the wine for 8 months in oak barrels, resulting in this velvety, elegant, and intense Merlot.

Tasting Notes
Intense aromas of blackberries and raspberry are combined with subtle aromas of currants and hints of spices. Fresh red berry fruit flavors are complemented with oak notes, leading to a long persistent finish
History
Harvest 2015 had a very positive development, and yields within expected. The season was marked by a very beneficial rainfall at the beginning, great for the evolution of the vines. Weather conditions and extended temperature range between day and night allowed for slow ripening of the grapes, maintaining excellent quality of fruit and freshness. These conditions, together with careful vineyard management resulted in elegant notes and a complex aromatic profile.
Regional Information
The Casablanca Valley is a cool climate area on the northwestern side of Chile's coastal range less than 30 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean. Our estate occupies the extreme eastern end of the valley and is noted for its gentle Pacific breezes and early morning fog, making it the ideal climate for producing cool climate red varietals such as Pinot Noir and Merlot.

Vinification Details
After destemming, the grapes are cold macerated for five days in open top stainless steel tanks and fermented with native yeasts. After primary fermentation, the wine is macerated with its skin for another ten days to achieve greater smoothness and intensity of flavors. Finally, the wine is racked to neutral oak barrels and aged for 8 months.

Tastes like Raspberry J2O

Awful wine

This wine smells absolutely awful. Best I can compare it with is dog’s excrement. To be honest I would like Ocado to take my other two bottles back. I should have read some of the reviews here.

Smells like a farmyard on a bad day

As another reviewer said, don't buy it! This is one of the worst smelling wines I've ever had. It may have been OK but the smell was really pungent. We tipped the glasses back into the bottle to see if it would improve... still waiting. Far better wines for the price out there.

Don’t buy this

I bought this based on the positive reviews but I didn’t like the first glass, gave it a chance to air, didn’t like the second, I’m now on my third and it’s no better. ItS not the worst wine ever but it tastes cheap. It’s one of those wines that leaves stains on your lips because it’s poorly made. Such a shame. Don’t buy it. You can get much better reds at the same price.
