Product Information
| Every purchase you make is a choice: the kind of agriculture you support, the impact on the environment, and the future of food. Wholegood sources organic produce from small and medium sized farms that care about the soil they grow in as much as the flavour it produces. It's not aesthetically perfect, exteriors can sometimes be blemished and shaped a bit wonky, but this does not compromise flavour. Wholegood Organic Onions are an excellent staple for your daily cooking. Firm, and fresh, they have a brown outer skin that gives was to crisp white layers of juicy flesh. While raw onions are a pungent allium with savoury notes from the sulphurous compounds found in their bulbs and stems, cooked onions mellow into sweetness and add depth and body to stews, sauces and stir fries. Their Organic growing means they can sometimes have imperfect skin, muddled colour and varied sizing, which in no way affects their taste and quality. Our packaging reflects our commitment to the planet. Our netting is plastic free & home compostable - made with Beechwood recovered from the thinning of European FSC or PEFC certified forestry. Good for you, good for the planet. |

Preparation and Usage
| We love a classic onion chutney. The perfect accompaniment to cheese or dolloped on hard crusted breads with a swig of high-quality olive oil and sea salt. We make ours quite simply by sautéing thinly sliced onions with aromatics like bay leaves, star anise, mace and thyme, on low heat for about 30 minutes or until they turn soft and translucent. Then add some light brown or muscovado sugar and balsamic or malted vinegar and stir to combine and mingle the flavours. Continue to simmer gently, uncovered, for another 30-60 minutes. Stir occasionally, until the mixture is dark, thick, and sticky. The chutney is ready when you can draw a spoon across the bottom of the pan and the mixture doesn't immediately flow back to fill the gap. Cool and transfer to sterilised jars. The flavours develop best if left to mature for a few weeks before eating. |
