The Jackfruit is not your typical fruit. It has a distinctive, musky smell, with a flavour that some describe as 'Juicy Fruit' gum. It is the largest tree fruit in the world, capable of reaching 45kg. It grows on the branches AND the trunks of trees that can reach up to 50ft tall.
Jackfruit has a thick and prickly green skin. When the jackfruit is opened the round fruits are revealed nestled within 'pockets'.
Jackfruit is commonly used in South and Southeast Asian cuisines. It can be eaten unripe, where it is cooked and has a texture similar to pulled pork or ripe where it is eaten as a fruit and cooked into desserts.

Someone needs to Google the word ripe
Not ripe at all. Hard and almost tasteless. Someone needs to Google Perfectly ripe.
This jackfruit is not ripe indeed, tastes like plastic with plain flavor
not ripe and very dry
These were definitely underripe and lacking in any flavour...
I had only ever eaten young jackfruit in savoury dishes so was pleasantly surprised by the ripe jackfruit. Lovely unusual flavour.
Perfect, ripe and sweet. Just like in the far east.
Not ripe enough
I love jackfruit and was thrilled to find it on Ocado, however its not ripe enough and so didnt have that lovely musky soft texture and flavour. Might leave it for a few days and see if it ripens.
