Our Own Range apples, your humble crumble. This easy-peasy recipe uses the simplest of ingredients to create the most iconic of British puds. The perfect finale to dinner, we’ve used sweet and juicy Ocado Own Range Gala apples, with a classic crumble topping. Serve a generous spoonful of your apple crumble masterpiece with hot custard, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a drizzle of cream – or for something different, a dollop of Greek yoghurt. Ingredients
- 155 g of golden caster sugar, + 3 tbsp
- 175 g of plain flour
- 110 g of cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 2 tbsp of demerara sugar, for topping
- 5 royal gala apples, peeled, cored and sliced in 1cm thick pieces
Method
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 190°C / 170°C Fan / Gas Mark 5.Step 2
Layer the apple slices in a baking dish and sprinkle with 3 tbsp of golden caster sugar.Step 3
Mix the flour with the remaining 155g golden caster sugar and a pinch of salt. Add in the cubed cold butter and rub through your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Scatter the crumble topping over the sliced apples and press down into the dish. Sprinkle with demerara sugar.Step 4
Transfer to the oven to bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden.
