Brazilian ‘Lemonade’

Despite the name, there are no lemons in this recipe for Brazilian ‘Lemonade’ from cocktail expert Carmen O’Neal. It’s known as limonada suíça in Brazil, where limão usually means key limes. The drink uses whole limes, skin and all, for a real zesty kick. For a stiff version, stir in some golden rum.

Ingredients

  • 397g condensed milk
  • 4 limes, cut in half, plus extra slices to garnish
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 150ml golden rum (optional)

Method

  • Step 1

    In a blender, blitz the condensed milk, half-limes and vanilla extract with 1 litre water and 3 handfuls of ice for 20 secs.
  • Step 2

    Strain into a serving jug and discard the solids. Stir in the rum, if using. Add ice and serve immediately in tumblers, garnished with extra lime slices.
