Death by Chocolate Pots

Created by food stylist and Fantasy Cakes author Angela Romeo, these clever Death by Chocolate Pots use ready-made mousse, cake and cookies to make a deliciously dark dessert with minimal effort. Swap the puds for any you like, such as cheesecakes or soufflés, provided the colour and texture has that moody, muddy look! And don’t forget to personalise the words and dates on the headstones for a bit of freaky fun.Time and servings

Ingredients
- 150 g of icing sugar
- 4 drops of of black food colouring
- 6 madeleines (we used plain ones)
- 2 chocolate sandwich cookies
- 1 brown icing pen
- 1 red icing pen
- 6 ready-made chocolate or salted caramel mousses
- 1 handful of mint, leaves only, to decorate
Method
Step 1
Sieve the icing sugar into a medium bowl, add 1½ tbsp water and mix until smooth enough to thickly coat the back of the spoon, adding more sugar or water as needed. Stir in the black colouring until light grey.Step 2
Line a large baking tray with baking paper. Cut a tiny sliver from the back of each madeleine (to help them lay flat) then spoon the icing across the front of each. Place on the baking tray and leave to dry for around 1 hr.Step 3
Put the cookies in a reusable plastic bag and crush to fine crumbs with a rolling pin (or blitz in a food processor). Set aside.Step 4
Use the icing pens to add your choice of eerie words, dates, spider webs and blood drops to the ‘gravestone’ madeleines. Leave to dry for 15 mins, then gently push one into each of the puds.Step 5
Scatter the cookie crumbs over the top of each mousse, decorate with mint leaves to resemble weeds, and serve immediately.
