Try this quick and easy chai latte recipe. Recreate this Indian spiced drink at home using some simple store cupboard ingredients. Black tea bags are infused with the warming spices of sweet cinnamon, fruity cardamom and fiery ginger. Then topped with sweetened steamed milk, a key versatile kitchen ingredient with plenty of nutritional value. A perfect sweet pick-me-up on those cold winter evenings. Don’t fancy the sugar? Try sweetening it with agave nectar or honey instead.

Ingredients

  • 2 black teabags
  • 10 g of fresh ginger, chopped
  • 0.25 tsp of ground cinnamon, plus extra for dusting
  • 2 cardamom pods, crushed
  • 150 ml of semi skimmed milk
  • 1 tbsp of sugar, or to taste

Method

  • Step 1

    Place the teabags, ginger, cinnamon, and cardamom pods into a heat-proof jug and add 300ml of boiling water. Allow to steep for 3 mins, then strain through a sieve.
  • Step 2

    Heat the milk in a saucepan on the hob over a medium heat. Sweeten with sugar to taste. Whisk until frothy.
  • Step 3

    Pour the tea mixture into your favourite cup and top with the frothed milk. Sprinkle it with cinnamon to serve.
