Meatball Patty Burgers

Meatball Patty Burgers

By MOB Kitchen
Published on 14 January 2022
These Meatball Patty Burgers from MOB Kitchen are nothing short of delicious. With juicy pork sausages and gooey cheese stacked in a toasted ciabatta bun, it’s the homemade sauce that really finishes off this dish. You’ll need tinned tomatoes, basil and mayo to make it, with an added kick from sliced garlic and chilli flakes. Use it to top your patties – rolling the sausage meat into equally sized balls means your burger won’t be overwhelmed with meat. Wondering what to pair your burger with? Try a creamy coleslaw, salted fries, or a leafy salad.

Ingredients

  • 25 ml of olive oil
  • 1 bunch of basil, roughly chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely sliced
  • 0.5 tsp of chilli flakes
  • 800 g of tinned tomatoes
  • 6 tbsp of mayonnaise
  • 8 pork sausages
  • 150 g of mozzarella
  • 4 ciabatta rolls

Method

  • Step 1

Heat a little oil in a frying pan over a medium heat, add the sliced garlic and chilli flakes, then cook for 2 mins.
  • Step 2

Tip in the tinned tomatoes and bring to a simmer. Cook over a gentle heat for 30 mins until the sauce has thickened up. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Step 3

Add the basil to a pestle and mortar and bash it to a fine paste. Add the mayonnaise and mix until you have a vibrant green sauce.
  • Step 4

Add the sausage meat to a bowl and season with salt and pepper. Mix to combine, then divide into 8 equal sized balls.
  • Step 5

Heat a frying pan over a high heat. Add a couple of the sausage balls, then place a piece of baking paper on top of the pan and pop a heavy bottomed pan on top to flatten the balls.
  • Step 6

Fry for a minute or two until crisp, then flip. Tear some mozzarella over the top, then add a splash of water to the pan and carefully put a lid on it. Cook for 2 more mins, until the cheese is melted.
  • Step 7

Repeat with the remaining sausage meat and cheese. Cut the ciabatta rolls in half and toast them cut side down in the sausage fat.
  • Step 8

Dollop some tomato sauce onto the base of the bun, then top with two sausage patties. Spread some of basil mayo onto the lid of the bread, then place it on top and serve.
