Great in a controllable wood\-burning stove!

This product has evolved over the years - early reviews complain of plastic bags, crumbling logs, a strong smell and they mention a wax coating too. We have used these logs since early 2023, and do not recognise those descriptions in earlier reviews in our coffee logs. Ours are stored around the hearth, and no smell is detectable, no crumbling, no wax, no plastic bag. The instructions are pretty clear - these are intended for wood-burning stoves, and they best suit the modern stoves that have complex air controls - one could get lucky with an open grate or a chiminea, but one needs to get the air control right or it will be like running a car with the choke out. We start up with a few dry sticks/twigs, an eco firelighter or two, and some card/paper packaging; the objective is to warm up a couple of Coffee Logs with a decent draught available - the paper and card help to get that draught going. This way, there is real heat being generated from early on, and the paired logs can provide a burn zone between them when the draught arrives. They are burning properly inside a couple of minutes. If you leave them like this, the draught will continue to increase with the heat, which then accelerates the draught. It gets really hot! If you leave them, in a half hour the two logs will be glowing ashes and the heat output tapering off. For a longer burn, we reduce the air flow underneath the logs and provide enough air above to fully combust the wood gas generated by the hot logs. They then burn very clean indeed and the ash is very fine. Almost all of the log has gone by the end of a burn. Very complete combustion. We buy these when they are on offer, since they are not cheap, but they do work very well in a modern stove, or (if you are lucky) with a simpler one and some skill. My grandpa was a steam engine man, a hundred years ago, and he taught me so much!

very quick burn

Love the fact that they are recycled but these burn really quickly on an open, indoor fire so are not worth the money. Might be a good purchase for an outdoor fire pit thats just used occasionally.

Great product

I bought these logs to use along side regular logs. They are great to help get things going. Burn hotter and don't go out. Our kiln dried logs get a bit damp when stored in the log shed so it really helped keep the fire going. Also if you just can be bothered to build a proper fire these are easy to use alone with no fuss. Smell great but occasionally have had some smokey ones.

pretty good

Bought these as I was running low on wood but needed some heat on chilly spring evenings . Impressed.

best logs

I use only these in my wood burner. They burn hot with little ash and smell great when stacked in the wood basket. Bonus is that they are recycled. Cant recommend strongly enough.

Excellent supplement to a Woodburner

We use these alongside kiln dried logs and have had great results in our wood burning stove. We get the fire going with a couple of regular logs then add a couple of the coffee logs. The coffee logs burn a lot hotter and they also have a lovely, slightly sweet smell. The result is a nice, cosy fire.
