healthy and delicious
amazing alternative
we love these spelt bases
We prefer spelt to wheat and bake our own spelt bread, so we decided to try these and were not disappointed. These bases are delicious we often fry up chopped veg and top the pizzas with some cheddar for an easy but tasty meal
Mouldy Old Dough
This was an interesting pizza base. If you love trad bases, this may not be for you but if you wish to experiment, it has a good flavour in our view. And spelt is a good product, etc. For us the problem was that there are two in a pack. If you are a family of four-plus, cooking two bases simultaneously may be a good idea but we used one and put t'other in a cool cupboard. Oh dear. Well, let's say that the mould collection we aquired was pretty and fascinating but not apetising. Now, in the pizza base's mitigation: the weather has been humid, plus we left it about four days. In our mitigation, we did not see storage instructions on the product - but they are on this page and probably the Ocado receipt; so we accept full responsibility. We should have frozen the second base and that is what I would advise. Given our pizzaless emergency, we placed the same intended toppings on four slices of very lightly-toasted Hovis Farmhouse bread we had in and thought it the best pizza we'd ever had - very un-Itallian, of course but much lighter. So now, we no longer need to buy pizza bases of any sort. (This also saves dough - that is money - a great side-advantage). Oh heck? what happens if our loaf goes mouldy? Pass the oatcakes, I'll apply the tomato puree :)
good quality ingredients
I really wanted to like these , I really did! A great natural minimal ingredients list - STAR Ancient Spelt grain- STAR However, no matter how I tried to cook them, the dough was just too thick , and not at all like the thin soft and crispy pizzas bases that I love. Taste was yummy , so another - STAR but texture just not there. Theres no other alternatives, so on the most virtuous of days I might have these again. Perhaps the manufacturers could try making them a bit thinner?
Great healthy pizza to have at home!
We often have a pack in fridge to make as a quick mid week dinner - much healthier than ordering pizza. My son and us adults love it. The bases have always come intact - we just brush oil underneath, add toppings and put in oven for 20 min and voila! Much healthier and tastier than others we have tried.
Great Alternative Pizza Bases
Love homemade pizza, hate pre-packaged store bought pizza bases. Was so pleasantly surprised by this product! When cooked, they are crispy on the outside and soft/warm in the middle. In my opinion they are hearty bases, but definitely not too thick or stodgy. Topped mine with tomato puree, goats cheese, beets, pear, red onion, mushrooms and rocket. Yum!
