Our Organic Passata Rustica is made from sun-ripened tomatoes that have been pureed and roughly-sieved for a rich, chunky finish. This Italian store-cupboard essential can be used as a base for rustic sauces, pizza toppings, soups and stews. Our Passatas have no added salt or sugar and are citric acid free too!
Our tomato range is produced in Italy and comes from a sustainable farm run by farmers who are committed to avoiding harmful chemicals, pesticides and fertilizers and who shun genetic modification. The beautiful, warm Mediterranean sun that shines throughout the summer months ripens the fruits to perfection. The crop is harvested from July to the end of August, when they are at their very best.

lacks intensity
Did not have an intense enough tomato flavour for my needs. I usually make my tomato sauce with bought tomato juice which works well, but this passata produced a sauce that was frustratingly mild.
no taste, just acid
one of the most awful passata, unusable. and at this price you'd expect much much better, I had to use chopped tomatoes for the recipe.
Tasteless and grainy
Really very unpleasant. Tastes of nothing and has a horrible grainy texture to it - not like the slight chunkiness of other 'rustic' passatas. I had to add puree, salt and sugar to this to get it to taste of anything.
perfect
I prefer this one to the fine one with no bits in. I also like the fact that it doesn't contain citric acid just 100% tomatoes and nothing else
Popped lids
Just recently I have had 2 bottles that I have had to throw away as the lids had popped before I had opened them. Ocado gave me a refund but I have just decided to stop using the Biona passata now. I also noticed another reviewer saying the same thing Its not even like this product is cheap and I have grown to expect more from Biona but sadly I feel let down by them now.
Lids not screwed on tight and button popped
I've been using this passata for a while but recently had two bottles, in separate deliveries, where the lids were very loosely screwed on and came off with no effort or release of seal. A third bottle was tightly closed but had a popped button. Ocado refunded my purchase price but when I wrote to Biona they said quality control had checked, the batch was alright, and no other customers had complained. I won't buy their products again.
