Great little snack
Nice with a cup of tea.
Puzzled
I have bought these intermittently for a number of years, and always found them to be very nice cakes compared to the more commercial varieties. Today, having received a packet with my grocery delivery, my husband and I had one with our cup of tea. On opening the cellophane packets, we were shocked to find our fingers covered in what appeared to be an oily substance. Having removed the cakes from their packets, we also found that they were very squishy, soggy. I was shocked as these cakes had never been like this in the past. I can only wonder as to whether this was caused by an over-abundance of butter in the recipe, or the addition of the invert sugar syrup. Why the need for so much butter, or indeed any invert sugar syrup at all, I do not know, but it was not pleasant trying to eat a cake which was so soggy.
Staple in our household
As above
No nasty ingredients
Unlike many offerings from M&S, these Bonne Maman treats aren't packed with E numbers. They also taste good.
