OK
This is my second Maxtra, and I've had it about 6 months. This is the best jug of those I've owned since I started to use a filter, but annoyingly it's already started to crack around the top of the main jug. This happened with my first one as well, so I made sure to be really careful when hand-washing the unit, so it's disappointing. The indicator light is a good idea, as it indicates when the filter should be replaced by changing from green through to amber then red; it judges this by how many times the jug has been emptied rather than by the quality of the water it's filtered - but mine has stopped working. I looked at the Brita website but although I think it would be a free spare part, it seems a bit of a rigmaorle to get one sent. My only other gripe is that the base of the jug is indented, so it doesn't sit flat on a surface, but this means that it condensates underneath so it sits in a little pool of water, unless you sit it on a cloth. I like it, but it's a simple thing that should be less fuss to own.
fantastic
To the reviewer who said the red light stays on all the time even when you replace the cartridge - if you read the instructions, you need to press the button for a few seconds after replacing!!!
disappointed
bought it year ago, been very busy with moving etc so didn't have time to return it. The green light didnt work after a week and stays red all the time, its suppose to be green when you put a new filter in. Also when you pour filtered water, unfiltered leaks over. Not great quality and its not cheap either !
Enthusiastic Pourer
Jumps for joy and overshoots at first, with a wide trajectory. Have spilt water a few times because of this, until I got used to it. How the 'smart light' can tell when the filter needs changing is apparently due to both a measurement of how many times you have activated the light by pouring and also whether it has been four weeks. I'd like to know more about how this happens as the way it's described is as usual suitably vague. The jug is sturdy and pleasingly straightforward in style, with a hint of mysterious sparkle.
Really good
Makes everything from tea to squash taste that bit better. Fits snugly into our standard size fridge and is in regular use.
Brilliant
Bit tricky to work out the instructions when you first open it - otherwise brilliant!
