Pale rose, vivacious with a nice brilliance. Generous bouquet with really complex aromas of ripe & fresh red fruits & little flowers of great finesse. Balanced & fresh with red fruits & citrus aromas.
History
Château La Gordonne has always had wide appeal. In the 1st century BC, the Romans set up on the site to take advantage of its vines & its wines. In 1300, the Carthusians from the La Verne monastery began working the vineyard. The estate was planted with vines & olive trees, and took its name from Conseiller de Gourdon, who owned it from 1650 to 1663. In 1663, the Conseiller de Dedons, Lord of Pierrefeu, bought part of the Aurran property known as known as `La Gordonne' & its house, vines, and olive trees.
Regional Information
Provençal vineyards are conditioned by their climate, characterised by low rainfall & the mistral, a strong north wind that purifies the atmosphere & limits parasites. Planting density (2.5 m' per vine) is suited to the soil's moisture potential. The vines are pruned short, the double cordon technique, to ensure even distribution of the bunches to guarantee the concentration. Due to the Mediterranean climate, the soils are very low in organic matter, a specific characteristic of Provençal terroir.

Vinification Details
Château La Gordonne has harvested all of its grapes at night using machines for 20 years. In 2008 some grapes began to be harvested by hand. Daytime temperatures exceed 35°C in the shade of the vine leaves. In August & September the Mediterranean climate helps the grapes soak up sunlight to stock up on complex fruity, floral, & spicy flavours. At night temperatures drop below 20°C, these notes take on a more sophisticated nature. The grapes cool & their flavours are naturally protected from oxidation.

2020 Vintage
A nice enough wine, with hints of strawberry and raspberry, but I can't help feeling it would have been better a year or two ago. This 2020 vintage is tasting a bit tired to me. Enjoyable enough but not quite hitting its price point.
