Tasting Notes
Bright red fruit aromas on the nose with a hint of white pepper and spice. The wine is medium-bodied and juicy on the palate with ripe cherries, plums and wild herb characteristics. Opening an hour before drinking is recommended to allow the wine to air and mellow.
History
This 200-hectare estate has belonged to the Guicciardini family since 1870. Now run by the charismatic Pietro Majnoni, it holds about 30 hectares planted with 8 different grape varieties. The vineyards were converted to organic methods in 2001 and each plot is harvested by hand, fermented separately, and matured in the estate's ancient cellars. The resulting wines are authentic expressions of traditional Chianti.
Regional Information
The vineyards are situated at 160m elevation on the sandy and clay-based soils of Tuscany's gently rolling hillside where the Mediterranean influence is an important factor.
Current Vintage
2018
Vinification Details
Vinification took place with local natural yeasts and 18 days of skin contact. Fermentation took place in cement vats and 15% of the wine spent 6 months maturing in oak barrels.
