Basic but tasty soup\/stew

I love East End spices and foods and these beans are another excellent product from them. I found them to be tender straight from the tin (although it said to cook for ten to fifteen minutes until they are tender?), and they are very tender. One tasty dish I use them for is a veg soup/stew. Open the tin and check for tenderness in case they might not be not soft and then adjust cooking times accordingly. Fry off plenty of garlic and plenty of tomato puree, add finely diced carrots, celery, and onion or leeks (or even spring onions but I'd only add them at the end), some sea salt and lots and lots of freshly milled white pepper. Add water (more if you want soup and less if you want more of a stew) and cook until the veg is cooked enough for your taste. Add the Black Eye Beans including the liquid from the tin and warm through and serve immediately. There are so many variations for a quick dish (other veg or left over pasta or bacon if you don't want a veggie dish) but only add the beans at the very end. The beans are fantastic.

Why is the tin not a pull ring one?

Beans have always been nice to be fair, but I don't like cans that need a tin opener For some reason this seemingly easy task is never that simple. For this reason I'm looking for alternatives

Really hard .

These were inedible , in spite of putting them in the pressure cooker (twice) , to see if that would soften them .

Good value beans

Very good value for money, beans are always of a consistent quality - never without a tin of these in our cupboard.
