Be careful washing whites with this....
We try to use eco friendly products as much as possible and having recently brought a new set of 12 white towels, we wanted to try and do an experiment. Over the space of 3 months, we washed 6 in this powder and 6 in Ecover Non Bio liquid with a tablespoon of Ecover bleach. The idea being that the Ecover powder already has oxygen based bleaching agent inside, so this should be a fair test. The result? The towels washed in the powder went grey and looked far older, the ones washed in the liquid with a spoonful of stain remover stayed pure crystal white. So, if you're planning on washing whites in this, be mindful as you might end up with a depressing colour change over time. However for lights and mixed colours, colours didn't fade excessively and stains came out just fine, so it does have its uses.
Why the new fragrance?
This product used to be perfect but they have recently added a fragrance. Sadly I am allergic to the fragrance and so can't use this any more.
genuinely impressed
I have two young children who regularly come home covered in mud stains and paint, and I am impressed by how well this powder cleans. Barely any scent and great eco credentials.
Low scent and does the job
Have used Ecover washing powder for 15 yrs, there is the occassional scent change, I am sensitive to a lot of soap powders, and this doesn't trigger my allergies and cleans well. Reviewers who are warning people to avoid, are referring to their personal experience, generalising for everyone doesn't make sense. We are responsible for being mindful about our own sensitives nothing works for everyone.
Always used this
Great washing powder, hardly any scent - which I like. Price creeping up though. Always cheaper elsewhere.
Avoid if you have sensitive skin
I was unable to purchase my normal brand of non-bio washing powder during the panic buying at the start of lockdown, and this was all that was available. I thought it would be fine, and was pleased about its eco-friendly credentials. However, after a couple of weeks of using, the skin on my hands became so sore, cracked, dry and were even bleeding. I don’t usually suffer with eczema, so was unsure what had caused this. At the same time, our baby, who wears cloth nappies, had the worst and most persistent bout of nappy rash, which would not go away with cream. I concluded it must be this washing powder which I use on the nappies. As soon as I was able to buy and use my usual washing powder again, lo and behold, the eczema and nappy rash both went. I still have lots of this left; what a waste. I would avoid this washing powder.
