poor value flavourless
This is really awful vanilla, do not believe the 'concentrated' description it adds no flavour to anything if you follow the directions and i think you would need to add half the bottle just to get a normal measurement of flavour. But this is the only alternative that Ocado offer to the other sweetened vanilla extracts. Please Ocado get a decent non sweetened alternative in
Expensive. Poor favour.
The vanilla flavour is hard to detect. It has a slightly bitter flavour as well. Not great, especially considering the price.
Poor and expensive
Ignoring the price, this is poor vanilla extract. Half vanilla extract mixed with half emulsifier, which you can taste. This is no more concentrated as Waitrose extract, so you have to use just as much, and then you can taste the polysorbate emulsifier. Also comes with too much packaging.
Tastes floury
50% extract, remainder an emulsifiers.
Bit gutted to be honest..
I've been mulling a review of this in my head since I purchased the drops a few weeks ago, (I know I know- I've nowt better to do obviously..!) I have already got the Cardamon, Chai Masala and the Rose drops- so I'm not new to this company (and I loved them all before this latest purchase) but the vanilla was SO difficult and gloopy to get out of the bottle- and hard to get the dropper back in without the gloop sloshing over the lip over the bottle. I actually thought it was off and checked the date it was so different from the other flavours I've got. Not sure about the actual taste either- but maybe I was put off by the initial sticky mess.
disappointing
I was given this product to try and to review. I usually use vanilla extract in baking, the pure one found in a large bottle. I tried this in vanilla cupcakes which were to be decorated Cookie Monster style, so they needed to have a good flavour. I also used it in the buttercream. I found it difficult to equate the amount of product needed compared with the number of teaspoons I'd usually use. It was difficult to get it out of the dropper, and I obviously didn't use enough as the flavour wasn't as rich as it could have been. I used it also for the buttercream. I was colouring this blue, so the dark, dirty appearance of the product wasn't an issue. However if you were wishing to make white buttercream it wouldn't be good. Overall I wouldn't buy again and think it's a bit of s gimmick. Bottled vanilla will do me fine.
