Product information

With vines planted from our Homestead in 1988, we wanted to create something special that encapsulated the vines, age, terroir, and the unique Marlborough climate, thus our single vineyard Grey Ghost Sauvignon Blanc was created.

The wine is named in recognition of the "Grey Ghost". The giant and iconic Gum tree on our Homestead vineyard. As stories would have it, the tree would make ghost noises as it cools down the night.

Hand harvested, whole bunch pressed then fermented wild in aged French oak barriques, the Grey Ghost Sauvignon Blanc is an old world style with a new world style with a new world twist. Aged, unique, unmistakable!

Tasting Notes
Soft peachy fruit characters blend perfectly with gentle toasty oak aromas. The palate is flinty and savoury with great length.
History
The Grey Ghost Gum tree which graces the label of the wine, and now stands over 140 feet tall, was planted in 1867 by Alice Jackson, great-grandmother of John Stichbury, who founded Jackson Estate in 1988. Jackson Estate is a special place, a testament to the vision and determination of the Stichbury and Jackson families who have farmed the land for more than 160 years.
Regional Information
Jackson Estate's vineyards are all located in the Marlborough wine region. The soil profile is linked to the underlying minerality and intense herbaceous notes that makes the wine style so unique.
Vinification Details
Jackson Estate Grey Ghost Sauvignon Blanc is handcrafted from carefully selected parcels of grapes from the Homestead vineyard on the central Wairau plain of Marlborough. The fruit was gently fermented, 50% in French oak barrels and then matured on the wild yeast lees for 4 months to give a rich, creamy texture with ripe fresh fruit.

price tag unjustifiable

I purchased this for a special occasion and we couldnt detect any difference between this and the standard Jackson Stich. Very disappointing as its significantly more expensive. If you have a more sophisticated palate, would love to hear the justification for the price differential.

very quaffable

I was sent this product to review It was a pleasant bottle of wine. Light and fruity. Very quaffable. Not sure Id spend £16 on it, but if youre willing then its a decent bet.

Lovely crisp NZ sauv blanc

I am reviewing this as I received a free sample from Ocado. I mainly drink NZ sauv blanc and look for one that is dry, crisp and fragrant. This wine is all of these things. It is more expensive than many other NZ wines but you can taste the difference between one at this price and one in single figures. I would recommend this wine if you like fresh, crisp sauv blanc.

Nice but a bit expensive

I’m doing this review as Ocado sent me a free sample to try. At £20 a bottle I feel able to be more critical. It wasn’t as good as another Sauvignon blanc I tried at half that price, but nevertheless it is quite a nice fresh, dry, crisp wine. I personally would probably not buy it at £20, instead choosing some of the cheaper excellent similar wines that Ocado carries.

Im reviewing this product because I got a free sample from Ocado. Absolutely delicious, crisp light and dry. I love a Marlborough Sauvignon and this was definitely a good one. I am not sure its worth the £20 price tag so probably wouldnt repurchase as there are others that are just as nice.
