Product information

Jackson Estate Vintage Widow is named in recognition for the families who are often forgotten at vintage as we strive to make the perfect Pinot Noir. Founded over two decades ago our philosophy remains the same; to handcraft wines using the best modern techniques, respect our vineyard sites, and maintain varietal integrity.

The grapes are handpicked from our oldest vines in our unirrigated, claybound Somerset and Gum Emperor vineyard blocks in Marlborough's southern valleys. Matured for ten months in 100% French oak barriques and showing concentrated red and black fruits overlaid with dried herbs, spice and cedar on the nose, with complex savoury and spice on the palate. The wine is rich, elegant and textural.

Tasting Notes
Concentrated aromas of red and black forest fruits dominate combined with dried herbs and spicy cedar notes. The flavour profile is savoury and spice, rich and ripe without losing precise Pinot Noir detail. Tannins are moderate but integrated.
History
Jackson Estate embodies the very best of Marlborough, New Zealand, the essence of fine wine. Jackson Estate is a special place, a testament to the vision and determination of the Stichbury and Jackson families who have farmed the land on the Wairau River plains at Jacksons Road for more than 160 years. This wine is named for our families, often forgotten at vintage whilst we strive to make the perfect bottle of Pinot Noir
Regional Information
The acclaim Jackson Estate generates is based on the merit of its soils, mature, cool climate vineyards and wine making style. High sunshine hours maximise fruit concentration; a long, dry growing season enables aroma accumulation and even ripening. Cool nights retain high acidity in the grapes, allowing the wines to age well. This wine is an expression of our beloved Pinot Noir. It is idiosyncratically New Zealand in style: true to vineyard, region and variety.

Vinification Details
Each parcel of handpicked fruit is gently destemmed into small open top fermenters, retaining a large proportion of whole berries. The young wine spends a few weeks on its skins before being pressed to a mixture of new and older French oak barrels for maturation. The wine is then bottled without fining or filtration.

Not good

My best friend was over for new year and she will drink literally anything, this is the first wine I have seen her refuse in 35 years!! Although it states it's 2016 vintage what I got was2018. That would have been fine but the wine wasn't just bad it was appalling. Thankfully Ocado were excellent and refunded me. 5 stars for customer services
