Tasting Notes
The Vintage is the choice of an exceptional year from which only a selection of the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Grands Crus will enter into a future iteration of Grand Siècle. It is a rare and outstanding wine that expresses the character of the year in the Laurent-Perrier style. Vintage 2012 is white gold in colour with a fine sparkle. It has a flowery nose of great complexity, with notes of citrus and white peaches. A wine that is very present with a lively attack and great finesse with good minerality and notes of grapefruit on the finish.
History
The House of Laurent-Perrier was founded in 1812 by André Michel Pierlot and took the name Vve Laurent-Perrier when Mathilde Emilie Perrier, the widow of Eugène Laurent, combined the two family names after she decided to expand the business. Eugénie Hortense Laurent, her daughter, inherited the House in 1925 and sold it to Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt in 1939. Fired by a passion for champagne, a respect for traditional values and, most importantly, for people, Bernard de Nonancourt inspired Laurent-Perrier with his independent spirit and creative audacity. He established privileged working relationships with the grape growers and cleverly combined innovation and tradition. He created the signature Laurent-Perrier style of freshness, finesse and elegance and developed a unique range of champagnes which are today exported to more than 160 countries worldwide. His legacy lives on today through his daughters.
Regional Information
Champagne terroir covers a roughly 34,000 ha of vineyards, each one bringing together a combination of climate, soil & terrain. The production zone AOC was defined & delimited by a law passed in 1927. The terroir has two major features: northerly latitude & dual climate. The subsoil is mainly limestone with the addition of chalk & marl. This subsoil has good drainage & also adds that mineral taste to certain Champagnes. The moderately steep terrain offers perfect exposure to sunlight with added drainage.

Vinification Details
Exclusively crafted from the best Crus - Chardonnay grapes from the Côte des Blancs and Pinot Noir grapes from the Montagne de Reims. It is a rare & outstanding wine that expresses the character of the year in the Laurent-Perrier style. 2012 is characterized by successive climatic incidents. In spite of these the dry, sunny summer allowed for an exceptional ripening of the grapes. These high quality grapes revealed an aromatic richness to foresee an exceptional vintage.

Disappointing

I've had other LP vintages before and enjoyed them. Drinking this the moment it is open ( I know, it's what we do with champagne) it has a bitter metalic edge to it that I didn't like at all. It dominated the drink and made it quite hard work to consume. For the price i shall look at other vintages and won't buy this one again.

beautiful drop of bubbly

this is a great champagne to drink on its own. plenty of bubbles, lovely flavours... quite a sweet tasting champagne compared to others, but we now buy this as a nice change from Laurent Perrier Rose
