Not impressed
I used to like these but now find the filling to be measly, bland and lacking pepper. The pastry was worse, far too crumbly for my taste (almost powdery). It's a no from me. Holland's cheese are much nicer.
Salty
I really wanted to like these but the filling was just too salty. The pastry was quite dry. Not a good buy, the Pie Minister ones are much better.
Disappointing
Considering these are called Country Pies, I had imagined that the filling would have the bonus of added carrots, swede, turnips and potatoes etc. I didnt read the ingredients, so that was my mistake, but the filling wasnt great. The pastry lid was nice, I brushed it with egg. The lid parted company with rest of the pie which was a struggle to remove from the foil, so it arrived on the plate looking quite unfortunate, but was saved by the lid being reinstated. These could be so much nicer with a bit more thought given to the recipe. Also Palm Oil is used, which is surprising and disappointing from a company with such a strong animal welfare ethos.
A comfort food favourite
Think theyve recently changed the recipe and its much better, the pastry is no longer soggy and its rich and more like home made. Great with mash and veg and a lovely comfort meal especially in winter
False economy and filled with mush.
These used to be really good but they have changed the filling and now they are just filled with glorified gravy mush and the bottom of the pies struggle to cook because of the soggy filling. The reviewer who mentioned that they used to come in boxes of 4 is correct! the prices are astronomical for what they are now. No longer worth buying because it's a sauce in a pie crust not a dinner anymore, not filling for someone looking for something nice and warm on cold nights. Avoid!
Accidentally vegan
These are my favourite veggie/vegan pies. I dont understand the soggy bottom issue some people have - not in my oven!
