We eat it straight out of the tin! Nom Nom Nom!
Once opened Marigold Braised Tofu doesn't last long! I often need to open two, one for "cooking" (make sure nobody else is in the kitchen, otherwise you have to share it!), and the other to snack on while cooking :D. It is delicious and so satisfying! Love it cold better than hot - really nice as "mock duck" in a wrap, very juicy, or with lemon, lots of dills, grated cucumber/tomato/sweetcorn, finely chopped red onion, garlic, olive oil, or vegan mayo as a "tunah" salad .. very versatile, so easy to store in the larder to keep for months (if it ever lasts that long!). Please never stop making this, my life depends on it :D!
hmm yes maybe tasty but.
At first I thought yes, a super easy healthy protein to slam in a lunch for work. The stock is tasty for sure and the texture is good. Partner loved it. Which is handy as he had to eat most of mine. It just had a harsh aftertaste to me which I didnt get on with. Its not bad and clearly some will love it. Im opting for the biona jarred seitan instead, even though it is more expensive
Political correctness much?
I do like this product, and dislike the way the provenance is stated on Ocado. Taiwan is Taiwan, or it used to be labelled as Republic of China. Here you label it as (province of China), which is misleading people to think that it is part of PRC. Why are you doing this? What is the purpose of adding this misleading note? Is this info from the distributor or from Ocado?
Love this
Really useful cupboard standby. I love it in stir fry. Only drawback is it's more expensive at Ocado on average around 50p a tin.
Great cupboard staple
I was a bit dubious about tofu from a can, but this is great! Its got an umami/salty/sweet flavour and is flaky/layered. Its surprisingly similar in flavour and texture to inari pockets if you like those!
Vegan Fakeaway
A few oriental restaurants Ive visited have used something similar to this as a meat substitute for vegetarians/ vegans. I drained most of the liquid away before cooking, but next time will try to squeeze more out. I dry-cooked it in my wok (its got some oil already in it) and added seasoning and garlic powder (run out of 5-spice). Sliced spring onion, hoisin and stuffed into pancakes! Quick dinner after getting home late. Good.
