FLAVOUR IS A FRONTIER
Natoora Venetian Radicchio Castelfranco
- Luca grows his Castelfranco Radicchio from seeds that his family have saved for generations, selecting plants uniquely suited to varying stages of the growing season.
- Following a period of field-growth, Luca forces his radicchio. This traditional process is the key to genuine flavour, but intensive agriculture has brought it to the brink of extinction.
- The plants are left in a blacked-out room for up to 20 days. Here, a strictly-controlled temperature and ventilation system simulate a second phase of growth. Unable to photosynthesise, crisp, vibrant heads are formed.
- A final cold shock and rinse in warm water draws out the buttery texture, crisp ribs and stark colouration. Each Castelfranco is then trimmed and opened up by hand.

Brand
He perseveres with sand-forcing for the delicately-balanced flavour, dense texture and standout colour that only this unique method of growing can produce.
Antonello's plants mature slowly in open fields, harvested only once the first frost has fallen. This guarantees a concentrated, less bitter flavour.
Grown without the use of chemical sprays or fertilisers, we source this during its natural season of November to March.

Nothing special
I love chicory and radicchio and eat it several times a week. I found this variety disappointing. Very expensive and nothing special, I wouldn't buy again.
Very inconsistent
Ive had one excellent one - large, crunchy and flavoursome and two limp, small, tasteless ones. Its too expensive to risk again I think.
fabulous colour and taste
Sometimes the traditional radicchio from natoora is very small but this was much bigger
I love It, but
I love every type of Radicchio. This is very tasty indeed, although compared to the other Natooras radicchios, this specifically always arrives a bit old, sad, floppy. Still buy it because I can only find it here and I love radicchio when in season, I just wish it could arrive in a slightly better shape!
a thing of beauty
Mine was plump, fresh and huge and I enjoyed it with a simple french dressing. Best eaten on the first or second day. Thank you Ocado for stocking this beauteous item.
Pretty
This has to be the prettiest lettuce I have ever seen, and makes a stunning backdrop to a pear, goats cheese and walnut salad. Its cream coloured with pink streaks, like raspberry ripple. However, the quality is not great and so has to be used on the day of delivery. It tastes like white chicory.
