Ocado Echalion Shallots 400g
Product information
These shallots have a delicate, elongated shape and a subtle yet significant savoury flavour. They are easier to peel than rounded shallots and can be used in the same way.
Serving Suggestion
For a flavoursome accompaniment to any dish, slice shallot in half (lengthways through the root), chop off top and tail then peel. Thickly slice shallot (width-wise) and sauté in a pan until caramelised. Serve with a sprinkle of flat leafed parsley and grated cheese.
"These long oval shallots (which used to be called Banana Shallots) are easy to peel, cook much faster than onions (which is helpful in a hurry) and have much more delicacy and sweetness. They can transform even the simplest of dishes. There’s a reason they’re used so much in restaurant kitchens!" Nigella Lawson

Great Banana Shallots
I use these a lot, particularly Asian food such as sambals. Their great value is how quick they can be prepared vs small round shallots. If you keep them in a cool dark place, they keep for ages.
really nice
Really nice taste
Lovely flavour
Decided to roast these for Sunday roast They were so tasty Deffo use regularly
Excellent
Mild & keep for a long time. I think it depends on the time of year what size you receive. I do prefer when the larger ones are available. Great for sandwiches too.
Delicious when good
Agree the quality can be hit and Miss but when good they are lovely. Used mine in lunch wraps raw this week. I usually use halved baked in earthenware dish for 35mins at 200 seasoned with S&P, and half oil half balsamic turned half way through - bake longer for for deeper caramelisation and stickier sauce. Fabulous. Great in a steak, beef sandwich, a burger, roast side dish. I’d probably try spread on toast tbh!
Hit and miss quality
I find these handy to have in. However, the quality is a bit hit and miss.
