Rock hard, brown bruising all over
These arrived rock hard, covered all over in brown bruising - two packs the same. Organic apples and oranges are currently from Europe, but these pears are from Argentina. I also bought Ethical Food Company Organic Pears on the same delivery and they were identical - from Argentina, same variety (Williams) and rock hard. At least Ethical Food Company come in fully recyclable packaging whilst Ocado uses cardboard tray, hard plastic lid AND plastic wrapping. Back to Ethical Food Company organic apples, oranges and grapes which are glorious.
sweet & juicy
Our little ones love them.
funny smell and taste
Smell and taste damp dont taste like fruit of any description. Wont buy again.
Bruised
Although these pears were almost ripe, when I opened the wrapping all four pears had black bruises which were on the underside and not visible from the top of the packaging. On cutting into the pears there were brown soggy patches in the flesh under the skins. I hope this was a one-off because its the first time Ive had a problem with them.
Variable sources around the world
These pears are sometimes delicious and locally sourced (in autumn/winter) and then come spring/summer, they continue to be offered but are hard and flown in from Argentina. I understand that Ocado want to keep products on the shelves, but please give us choice as consumers by telling us when you shift suppliers to the other side of the world - I dont want to buy a completely unsustainable product!
Great taste
I've never had any problems with these pears. I keep in the fridge until I am ready to use, take out what I need and leave in the fruit bowl for a couple of days. They are juicy and have a beautiful flavour. As the packaging is recyclable, I don't have a problem with it.
